Virtual Reality (VR) Producing a simulation of psychosis in a virtual reality environment for the education of psychiatric symptomatology and other concepts such as empathy was the title of a research project done in affiliation with Psychosis Research Center. This project won the prize of the Iranian Psychiatric Association (The 4th Davidian Prize) in the 36th Annual Meeting of The Iranian Psychiatric Association (October 2019). Disclosure of a reality: The future is a virtual reality. Technology to create artificial environments that can be manipulated—for teaching tomorrows physicians, assessing patients, and treating some conditions—has moved beyond science fiction and is well on its way to becoming a functional tool in health care and medical education. Virtual reality technology has already shown utility for posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), attention-deficit/hyper-activity disorder (ADHD), and other areas of psychiatry and mental health. Virtual reality has moved out of the phase of being an expensive toy and into the stage of being a functional technology. Virtual realities can be displayed on a flat-screen, or can be viewed through the viewfinder of a head-mounted device. The scene on the screen or in the viewfinder can be populated with simulated stimuli that can be manipulated for whatever purpose is necessary—whether its amusement, education, or medical and psychiatric applications.
